How Do I Fix My PC Because It Keeps Crashing?
by: Jay White
I can't tell you how many times I have had someone ask me "How Do I Fix My PC Because It Keeps Crashing". It's something I've heard over and over again as a Computer Repair Technician. Crashing computers have become my staple business in recent times.
Computers, let's face it, can be really useful and time-saving devices or they can be the biggest pain-in-the-neck that has ever been invented. (I say that with love to the computers of course).
A carefully looked after computer with proper security measures and safe-surfing protection in place should give years of quality service with no downtime. But who has time to do all that is required to maintain them like that? Most people just don't have the time.
And even if they have the time, most computer owners really aren't all that knowledgeable about what they should be doing to protect themselves. (That's not saying anything against them, as computers are such complex machines - even the professionals don't know everything there is to know). However, these people are often easily manipulated by malicious hackers into opening up their computer to all kinds of malware, spyware, viruses etc. and the consequences can be devastating.
Just in the past week I had two people call me after they had downloaded some "safe-looking" software from the internet and both have found their computer is now crashing continuously and completely unusable. Even uninstalling the program hasn't helped them because it has left traces of itself all through the computer that they can't get rid of. They have called me to come fix their PCs.
And just because I am a Computer Technician, don't think that I am immune to these things myself. Last week I was happily surfing the net with my recently-purchased, top-of-the-line notebook computer, when all of a sudden I had trouble reaching the website I wanted to go to.
Next thing I know, I find my browser opens at a website totally unrelated to my surfing, and of course it was a site promoting some amazing-looking anti-virus software. It warned me that I had been infected and that I should download their program to get rid of the problem.
[Fortunately I knew it was bogus straight away (though it looked very professional) so I didn't click on anything and quickly closed the browser window down. I have seen other computers where the users saw this same thing and accepted the download, only to find that they had infected their computer with something even more malicious.]
So, see, it can happen to anyone basically, expert or not.
Luckily I had recently downloaded and installed an Anti-Spyware program called Spyware Nuker and I was able to run a scan and get rid of the spyware with no problem. This was a recent purchase and I'd wondered at the time if I was wasting my money, but now I was very glad I'd bought it.
All I kept thinking about was how I wished I had been more careful to make sure I had run a regular scan with Spyware Nuker before this happened. I had used it when I first bought it but hadn't done a scan with it since then (slack huh). But at least I did have "the Nuker" installed already, because I don't think I could have even got to their website to download it once that spyware had gotten into my notebook computer's system.
Well, the old adage is right - "prevention is better than cure".
We think it is such a hard thing to do, to maintain our computers so they are safe, but it is actually so much easier and better to take the time to do that, than to lose our computer and our privacy to some internet criminal. There is good legitimate software available that is designed to make it easy for the "less technically minded" to keep their computers scanned and clean and protected and we all need to get it and get protected now.
I recommend to all you computer users out there - don't leave it and think that nothing will happen to you - cause if you aren't careful enough, then it will happen to you...the chances of getting spyware in your computer and losing everything are HUGE!
If you need a top-notch program to rid yourself of spyware and adware, and keep your computer protected, I highly recommend Spyware Nuker, available from www.nuker.com (as you can probably tell by now). If you get a legitimate program like that and scan and clean your computer on a regular basis (I do it daily now) then you are arming yourself with the best defense against the hackers. It's a small price to pay to make sure your privacy and your computer are safe.
Believe me I know, and I definitely wish I had taken my own advice. Glad at least that I found Spyware Nuker when I did though.
All the best for safe computing!
